Planning a destination wedding in France is exciting, romantic and, let’s be honest, can be intense to organise logistically!
You may have found the dream château, mountain venue, vineyard, villa, hotel or private estate. You may have a brilliant wedding planner helping bring everything together. You may even already know the kind of music you want; a beautiful acoustic set for the ceremony, something relaxed for the cocktail hour and a band or DJ to get everyone dancing late into the night.
But when it comes to live music at a destination wedding, there is a lot more to think about than simply choosing an act and confirming the date.

At Après Ski Bands, we are not the kind of agency that simply sends you a few artist links, takes the booking and leaves you or your planner to figure out the rest.
We work as the link between you, your wedding planner, your venue and our musicians - from the first enquiry through to the final song. Every detail including, artist travel, arrival times, parking, accommodation, technical requirements, load in plans, set timings, sound limiters and on-the-day coordination, we help manage the details that make the difference between “we booked a band” and “the whole evening ran beautifully”.
Here’s what couples need to know when booking music for a destination wedding in France.
Destination wedding music involves more than choosing a great band
Of course, the music matters. You want an act that suits your style, your guests, your venue, and the atmosphere you want to create.
But for a wedding in France, especially if you are planning from abroad, the practical side matters just as much.
-Where will the musicians be travelling from?
-Do they need flights?
-Do they need transfers?
-Where can they park at the venue?
-Is there a loading area for equipment?
-What time does the venue need them to set up from?
-Is there a sound limiter?
-Can music continue outside after a certain time?
-Does the band need accommodation?
-Who is speaking to the venue about power sources, performance spaces, green rooms, vendor meals and timings?
-Who is making sure the artist is in the right place at the right time?
These details are not glamorous, but they are what keep your wedding day running smoothly.
A fantastic band can only perform at their best if the logistics around them have been properly handled and planned in advance.

Why a destination wedding needs a proper middle person
When you book musicians directly, or through an agency that only handles the initial booking, the rest often falls to the couple, the planner, or the venue.
That can quickly become stressful.
Your planner is likely to already be managing catering, florals, transport, ceremony layout, table plans, guest movement, speeches, suppliers, timings and a hundred other moving parts. Adding artist logistics, technical questions and travel coordination on top of these classic wedding details can create unnecessary pressure.
That is where we come in.
Après Ski Bands acts as a step-by-step middle person between everyone involved.
-We help to guide what the couple wants alongside what their chosen artist is exceptional at.
-We help translate what the venue allows into what is possible logistically.
-We help your planner understand timings, setup needs and technical requirements.
-We help our artists arrive prepared, briefed and ready to perform - with all information shared ahead of time so there are no surprises on the day.
The result is a smooth and hassle-free experience for everyone.
Travel, flights and transfers need to be planned properly
France is a big country, and destination weddings often take place in rural, remote or private locations. Beautiful wedding venues are not always easy to reach by public transport and some are a long drive from the nearest airport or suitable accommodation.
Depending on the act, we may need to coordinate flights, trains, hire cars, taxis or local transfers. We also consider how much equipment the artist is bringing, whether they can travel light and therefore, if additional sound equipment is needed locally.
For example, an acoustic duo flying in for a ceremony and cocktail hour has very different travel needs from a full party band with instruments, full backline and sound equipment.
We help identify those needs early on, so there are no surprises later.
Parking and access can make or break the setup
This sounds small, but it really matters.
-Can the band park close to the performance or load-in area?
-Is the venue situated up a mountain path, in a pedestrian zone, or at the end of a narrow access road?
-Is there a lift, staircase, gravel path or long courtyard between the parking area and the stage?
-Can equipment be unloaded before guests arrive?
-Is there a bad-weather plan if the performance is outside?
These are the kinds of questions that often get forgotten until the day itself.
We ask them in advance.
Because when musicians arrive with instruments, speakers, cables, stands and personal equipment - access matters. A difficult load-in can delay setup, affect soundcheck and create avoidable stress for the planner and venue team.
Our job is to help avoid that.
Timings are everything
Wedding music is not just “the band plays at 9pm”.
A full wedding day might include:
-Ceremony music
-Music during the drinks reception
-Background music during dinner
-A first dance
-A live party set
- A DJ set
-A late-night music
-A sound curfew management
Each moment needs to fit around the rest of the wedding schedule.
The ceremony may run late. Speeches may overrun. Dinner service may take longer than expected. Guests may need to move from one area of the venue to another. The band may need time to pack-down, re-set up and sound check between acoustic and party sets.
We help build realistic timings with your planner and the act, so the music supports the flow of the day rather than adding pressure to it.
Sound restrictions are common in French wedding venues
Many French wedding venues have sound rules, especially châteaux, private estates and venues near villages or residential areas.
-Some may have a sound limiter.
-Some only allow amplified music indoors after a certain time.
-Some allow acoustic music outside - but not a full, amplified band.
-Some have strict curfews.
-Some require doors and windows to stay closed during the evening party.
...Some may specify an electric drum kit and that the band must play through an already in-situ house PA
This does not mean you cannot have a brilliant night. It just means the plan needs to be realistic.
We help couples and planners ask the right questions early, so the entertainment matches the venue’s rules. There is no point booking a high-energy outdoor party band if the venue only allows low-level acoustic music outside after dinner.
The earlier we understand the restrictions, the better we can recommend the right format.
The right music format depends on your wedding day
Not every wedding needs a full band from start to finish. Sometimes the best solution is a combination of formats.
For example:
-An acoustic soloist for the ceremony
-A roaming trio for the cocktail hour
-A live band for the main party
-A DJ set to finish the night
-A DJ with live accompaniment such as sax, percussion or vocals
-A smaller setup for venues with sound limiters
One of the benefits of working with an agency like Après Ski Bands is that we can help you choose the right format for each moment or even work out how to achieve all of your music requirements with one band taking on multiple music moments throughout the event.
We look at your venue's performance areas, your guest list numbers, your budget, your timings and the atmosphere you wish to create, then recommend the acts and setups that make the most sense.
Your wedding planner should not have to chase the musicians
A good wedding planner is invaluable. But they should not have to spend the week before your wedding chasing flight times, arrival details, parking questions, equipment lists and last-minute artist updates.
We help keep that communication clear.
We liaise with the artist.
We liaise with the planner.
We confirm key timings.
We help clarify setup and technical needs.
We make sure the act has the information they need before they arrive.
This means your planner can focus on the full wedding day, while we focus on making the music side run properly.
Details matter even more when guests have travelled
At a destination wedding, your guests have often made a real effort to be there. Whether they have travelled 4 hours or 4 days to be with you, many will have booked flights, accommodation and time off work.
The music becomes a huge part of the experience.
It sets the tone when they arrive.
It brings people together during the drinks reception.
It lifts the energy after dinner.
It turns the evening into a party.
It gives everyone the “that was so worth the trip” feeling.
That is why the entertainment should feel considered, not like an afterthought.
