Hidden beneath the centre of Morzine, it has become one of the resort’s most recognisable live-music venues and one of the most important stages for the artists touring with Après Ski Bands.
A Venue Built Around the Show
The Cavern is not simply a bar that happens to put on a band occasionally.
Live music is central to its identity.
Its underground setting creates a very particular atmosphere. The crowd is close to the stage, the artists can see every reaction and there is nowhere for the energy to disappear. When a band connects with the room, it feels immediate.
That intimacy is a huge part of what makes The Cavern special. It may not be the largest stage in the Alps, but it is exactly the type of venue where a strong party band can take complete control of the night.
More Than 25 Years in Morzine
The story of The Cavern began more than 25 years ago with its owner, Russ Price.
Russ first arrived in Morzine during the 1990s and eventually took over the underground section of a former nightclub, transforming it into the bar that would become The Cavern.
As Russ explained in a recent retrospective interview with Morzine Source, the venue initially found its audience later at night. It became known as a busy seasonaire bar before live performances gradually grew into a much more important part of the business.
After two decades, the venue was reimagined around live entertainment. The stage was enlarged, the technical setup was improved and professional lighting was added, helping The Cavern evolve from a popular late-night bar into a dedicated Alpine music venue.
That decision helped shape the Cavern we know today: informal and lively, but with a proper performance space that allows touring musicians to deliver a genuine show.
A Regular Home for Après Ski Bands Artists
The Cavern has become a real home from home for many of the artists on the Après Ski Bands roster.
Over the years, its stage has welcomed bands including UpTones, Revolverlites, The Honey, Evelyn & The Shakedown, Superficial Damage and many more.
These are artists who understand that an Alpine performance requires much more than simply arriving with a good setlist. Resort audiences can change completely from one evening to the next, so the bands need to read the room, adjust their show and create a connection quickly.
One night might call for rock anthems. The next might suddenly become a full-room ABBA singalong. Sometimes the song you expected to be the highlight barely gets a reaction, while an unexpected throwback sends everyone charging towards the stage.
That unpredictability is part of the fun and The Cavern is a brilliant room in which to watch experienced performers work their magic.
The Photographs That Capture the Party
Our relationship with The Cavern also continues long after the final song of the night.
The team regularly provides us with gorgeous live photographs of our artists performing at the venue. Those images appear throughout the Après Ski Bands website, on artist profiles and across our social media.
They allow future venues, wedding couples, event organisers and corporate clients to see our artists doing what they do best: performing live in front of a full room.
The Little Details That Make The Cavern Different
Of course, The Cavern is not only known for its stage.
The bar also has seven beer tables fitted with their own pumps, meaning groups can pour their drinks without repeatedly making their way through the crowd. There are large screens for major sporting events, alongside a broad menu of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails.
But once the evening’s band begins, everything points back towards the stage.
That is the real strength of the venue. The Cavern understands that live music should not feel like background entertainment. The musicians are there to lead the night, and the room is designed to let them do it properly.
Superficial Damage at The Cavern
Among the bands taking over The Cavern stage this summer are the brilliantly chaotic Superficial Damage.
Fronted by a powerhouse vocalist with a huge personality, the four-piece combine exceptional musicianship with the kind of playful, unpredictable energy that works perfectly in an intimate venue.
Their repertoire jumps fearlessly between rock, pop, indie, disco and nostalgic party favourites. AC/DC might be followed by ABBA. Fleetwood Mac can lead into Britney Spears. Paramore, Chappell Roan, Girls Aloud and Electric Six are all fair game.
Superficial Damage do not simply perform songs at an audience. They pull everyone into the show, encourage the questionable dancing and somehow turn a room full of strangers into one enormous choir.
A Partnership We Are Proud Of
Après Ski Bands works with venues throughout France, Switzerland and Italy, and every one has its own atmosphere.
The Cavern’s is unmistakable.
It is underground, intimate, unpretentious and entirely committed to live entertainment. It gives touring musicians a professional stage while preserving the sense that anything might happen once the show begins.
