Zermatt Unplugged (Literally): The Revolverlites Light Up the Dark

It had all the charm of a vintage postcard — upstairs at Paper Caesar’s, nestled above Zermatt’s iconic live music haunt The Pink at the Poste Hotel. But instead of dazzling lights and thumping basslines, it was candlelight, acoustic guitars, and a whole lot of improvisation that stole the show.

Alpine favourites The Revolverlites found themselves headlining what could only be described as Zermatt Unplugged — Apocalypse Edition. With a two-day power cut leaving the entire resort without electricity, trains, or roads in or out, the band had no choice but to ditch the amps and embrace a back-to-basics performance.

Introducing themselves cheekily as The Shit Show, the Revolverlites leaned into the chaos with the kind of self-deprecating humour that’s become a trademark of their gigs. With no lights, no sound system, and definitely no setlist, they transformed adversity into artistry — playing by candlelight, taking requests, and even making up lyrics when the internet failed to deliver.

And yet, what unfolded was pure magic. Intimate, spontaneous, and wildly entertaining, the Revolverlites delivered a raw, acoustic set that had the entire crowd singing along. Harmonies soared. Percussion shimmered. Acoustic licks danced through the flickering shadows. Even without the usual tech, the talent was undeniable.

Drinks were served in total darkness. Ice? Forget it. Draught beer? Not a chance. Bottles were chilled the old-fashioned way — buried in the snow on the balcony. But none of it mattered. The whole evening had the spirit of a fireside jam session, with guests huddled close, drinks in hand, singing in unison with strangers-turned-friends.

One guest summed it up perfectly over the buzz of post-set chatter:
“Tonight has been so special. Yeah — great band too. The Shit Show. So much fun.”

Zermatt may have been cut off from the rest of the world, but in that candlelit room, the music never stopped. And for one unforgettable night, The Revolverlites reminded us all what live music is really about: connection, creativity, and making the best of whatever the mountains throw at you.
